Ionia Public Schools invites you to learn more about the students, staff, administration, and community supporters who make our local K-12 school program strong. The Ionia District has outstanding and innovative educational programs that serve the needs of more than 3,300 students. The district's reputation for educational excellence comes from the collaboration of our outstanding teaching staff, wonderful students, and supportive parents and community. Ionia Public Schools has expansive curricular and co-curricular opportunities within well-maintained, comfortable facilities.
Five modern neighborhood elementary schools serve K-5 students, while the Ionia Middle School houses students in grades 6, 7 and 8. High school students attend the Ionia Education Center, one of the few locations where students can complete college prep, a two-year vocational program and community college classes without ever leaving the building. A non-traditional high school completion program is offered at Douglas R. Welch High School on Harrison Street. Ionia Public Schools also operates early childhood programs, including the Early 4's at the Marge Melcher Child Development Center and KinderStart at Jefferson for young five year olds.
Our most recent facility project is the construction of a new $3.1 million outdoor athletic complex to house football, track and marching band. This outstanding facility was completed in the fall of 2007.
We are very proud of our students and their accomplishments. Our staff is dedicated to helping each child reach his or her potential through a wide range of programs designed to meet the individual needs of each student. We’re so very grateful for a supportive community that takes pride in its schools.
