Ionia High School offers a full array of athletic programs for boys and girls, including Boys & Girls Soccer, Boys & Girls Tennis, Boys & Girls Basketball, Boys & Girls Golf, Boys & Girls Swim, Boys and Girls Bowling, Football, Cheerleading, Dance, Cross Country, Track, Baseball, Softball, and Volleyball.
The Bulldogs' gymnasium holds 3,000 spectators and is equipped with 3 full basketball courts, 3 volleyball courts, and a competition wrestling mat. We are also fortunate to have a separate wrestling room for practice, a well-equipped weight room, and a training room. Sharing the east end of the building is the aquatics area. The recently renovated 6-lane pool supports our swim team competition and seats 250.
The district's new stadium, completed in the summer of 2007, is a showcase featuring a beautiful entryway, new home and guest bleachers, new pressbox and new concession stand, elevated arena and new restrooms. Our outdoor complex also includes 8 tennis courts, an 8-lane all-weather track, baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, practice fields, and a cross country course.
High School athletics are a very important part of our students' educational experience. We encourage the efforts of our athletes and support them while demonstrating the true spirit of sportsmanship.
The Ionia Affiliated Athletic Boosters is the umbrella organization under which all Ionia High School athletic groups are united. The goals are to promote a positive attitude toward student athletics and to support Ionia Public Schools’ athletic programs by providing needed financial assistance.
To this end, supporters believe that a united booster group (IAAB) can generate more resources for the benefit of all Ionia athletes than individual sports can generate separately. And for more than 13 years, sports boosters at IHS have operated successfully under the IAAB umbrella.
Membership in the IAAB is open to all adult persons eighteen (18) years of age or older who are interested in supporting athletics in the Ionia School District. Booster meetings are held on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in MCC Room 304 at Ionia High School.
